Again, public defenders are busy. This means that they are going to have little time for court hearings. This also means that your hearing could be delayed. This is not something that you want to hear because this means that you could be sitting in jail longer.
When you are appointed a public defender, they are going to be very busy with many cases. Often, public defenders will carry more cases than a privately hired attorney.
As you know, public defenders are not bad people. However, they may not be as great as you think. They do have some cons. There are attorneys available for hire as well. These are often good people who just want to protect those who are innocent. However, there are the few who are there to obtain money and play with the case.
